Norman Sklarewitz is a freelance journalist who over an extensive career has published thousands of feature articles and spot news reports for a variety of major publications in the U.S. and in foreign countries. His journalism background includes a staff position with The Wall Street Journal where he was a Far East Correspondent based in Tokyo. In that capacity he covered political and economic stories throughout much of Southeast Asia including Vietnam.
After returning to the U.S. and working in several domestic bureaus of the WSJ he joined U.S. News & World Report as its Los Angeles bureau chief. He subsequently opted to work full time as a freelancer. As such he traveled extensively internationally contributing destination features to a wide variety of lifestyle magazines, special interest publications and airline inflights.
His work has won numerous awards from the Western Chapter of the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW) and a Gold Award from the Pacific Area Travel Association (PATA). He was in the U.S. Army during World War II for three years, two of which were served in the European Theater of Operations for a time as a military correspondent. Following his discharge, he attended and was graduated from Indiana University and later took an MLA degree from the University of Southern California.
Norman was born in Chicago and is married to Esther Louise (Bohn). They now live in Los Angeles.
